Jaga Jazzist

The BBC named their 2002 debut album A Livingroom Hush the best jazz album of the year, and yet Jaga Jazzist are signed to an electronica/experimental record label, Ninja Tune.  The group cites both John Coltrane and Squarepusher as sources of inspiration.  How can this be?  What could they possibly sound like?  Find out below!  I do not believe this is the official music video, but it’s alright.  Remember, contact me to promote your band for free.

Jaga Jazzist are from Norway, have been together since 1996, and have gone through over 35 different members.  Some of the many ways they have been labeled are experimental jazz, nu-jazz, electronic jazz, and my personal favorite, future jazz.  I forget where I read it, but I remember someone even calling them “experimental big band.”  They’re just amazing – how about that?  Start here, but acquire the album A Livingroom Hush.
